Hygiene Treatment

Hygiene appointments are vital to help you to avoid or combat gum disease, which can cause bad breath and eventually tooth loss.

We recommend that you see the Hygienist at least every 6 months, this will really go a long way to helping you keep your teeth for life and possibly avoid extensive treatments later on in life.

Our hygienists Jo Sharpling and Wendy Cooke will help you to beat Dental Plaque by performing a thorough clean and polish as well as offer oral hygiene instruction, give dietary advice in relation to oral health, and direct patients into using the most appropriate oral hygiene aids, e.g. floss, mouthwash, electric toothbrush, etc.

Plaque is a sticky film that forms on the teeth and gums. The bacteria in plaque release acid that attacks your tooth enamel. This attacking of the enamel can lead to tooth decay and can also cause irritation to your gums, making them sore or sometimes causing them to bleed. In some cases, the gums can pull away from your teeth leaving gaps (or pockets) which can in turn fill with bacteria that attack your tooth even more. If this is left untreated, the bone around the tooth can also start to recede exposing the dark root of your tooth. If this remains untreated this can then lead on to tooth loss.

Our hygienists are also able to fissure seal vulnerable teeth and offer assistance with teeth whitening.

At Roseneath we have two hygienists, and appointments are available to suit. They are backed up by a comprehensive range of oral hygiene aids available at the reception desk.
Regular hygiene visits will provide the best chance to avoid gingivitis and gum disease (periodontitis), and halitosis (bad breath). If you have severe discolouration/staining of your teeth, polishing may be necessary.
